# Use and adapt codex-electron-clone

Use the documented interfaces and source layout for **codex-electron-clone**. The sections below retain the README’s examples and configuration details.

## Run

```bash
npm install
npm start
```

Requires Node.js and npm. The interface is a local visual prototype. Its chat response is a placeholder; no Codex account or agent service is connected.

To build the macOS desktop application on Apple Silicon:

```bash
npm run package:mac
```

The built `.app` appears in `../build/Codex UI Clone-darwin-arm64/`. It can be opened like a normal macOS application.

## Browser preview

Open `index.html` directly in a browser. The file picker uses the browser's own dialog there; Electron uses the native desktop dialog. Drag the narrow divider beside the sidebar to resize it. Use the magnifying glass or `Cmd/Ctrl+K` for the search page. Hover over a chat to remove it from this local preview.

## Commands in the root manifest

The captured [package.json](https://github.com/Up-to-code/codex-electron-clone/blob/HEAD/package.json) declares the following scripts. Run them from the directory containing that manifest.

## Troubleshoot a local change

1. Reproduce the smallest example from the [quick-start guide](/docs/up-to-code-codex-electron-clone/quick-start-guide).
2. Compare required configuration and dependency versions with the README.
3. Check the linked issue tracker for the same error. Include the command, runtime version, and relevant error when reporting a problem; omit credentials.
