# Run a first form-builder example

Start with the smallest workflow described by the README for **form-builder**. Complete [installation and configuration](/docs/up-to-code-form-builder/installation-guide) first.

## Start a local preview

After installing dependencies, run:

```sh
npm run dev
```

Open the URL printed by Next.js. The README describes a drag-and-drop form builder: add a field, configure its label and validation, and use the preview to inspect the result. Try a valid and an invalid submission before sharing a form URL.

## Database setup is incomplete in the README

The captured build script runs `prisma generate` before `next build`, but the README does not document database provisioning or required environment variables. A working development server alone does not prove that submissions persist. Check the Prisma configuration and ask the maintainer for missing setup details before relying on saved responses.

## Next task

[Read the usage guide](/docs/up-to-code-form-builder/usage-guide).
