Add your languages

Add a language

  1. Open Languages → Settings in WordPress.
  2. Enter its display name in any script, such as 日本語, हिन्दी or العربية.
  3. Enter a language tag: ja, hi, ar, pt-BR or zh-Hant. Custom BCP 47 tags are supported; you are not limited to a predefined list.
  4. Set an optional WordPress locale such as pt_BR. Choose Right to left for RTL content; otherwise use Left to right.
  5. Select Save language.

What changes?

The language becomes available in translation management. Existing unassigned content keeps the default language. Adding a language does not translate text or publish copies.

The plugin stores content in any Unicode script. Its admin interface uses available WordPress translation files; this does not mean the interface has already been translated into every language.
